Durham Festival of Birds

Presented by Pickering Naturalists, Durham Region Field Naturalists and North Durham Nature.
Join us for this inaugural birding festival Sunday September 21st at Port Whitby Marina, 310 Watson St. Whitby Ontario. Two exciting family and fun focused birding events. Sponsors include many of the best known optics companies who are providing excellent prizes such as scopes, binoculars, etc. Don’t delay, space is limited.
Net proceeds will go to Bird Studies Canada – an organization proudly committed to advancing the understanding, appreciation and conservation of Canada's wild birds and their habitats.
Event #1: Durham Skies Big Day – a 24 hour birding event for experienced birders.
This event begins Saturday September 20th, 2014. On September 20th, check in at Durham Skies - 1410 Bayly St., Pickering (in person or via telephone). Your 24 hour bird “race” will commence at your check-in time. Finish your Big Day back at the Whitby Marina and participate in the prize draws!
For experienced birders looking for a challenge here is an opportunity to spend a full 24 hours birding in a friendly, yet competitive environment. Search all of Durham Region for as many species as possible... but don't think it will be easy! Get your team together and register at the link provided above! Good luck to everyone. Maximum 4 members per team - $80.00 registration for the team.
Event #2: Wings Over Whitby - Fun for the whole Family
September 21, 2014 - 9:00am-4pm Port Whitby Marina
Join our expert presenters for some fun bird related workshops, followed by a bird-focused scavenger hunt at nearby birding hot spots! Check-lists for the hunt will be distributed to each team prior to departure from the Marina. Come back to the Marina at the end of your hunt and you may win great prizes. Adults and children will enjoy this relaxed approach to bird finding and identification, so get a group together and register at the link provided above! Up to 6 members per team - $5.00 a person or $10.00 for the whole team!
